Computational Neuroscience Initiative Basel Training

Basel (Switzerland)

INTRODUCTION

Kevan Martin is professor and co-director at the Institute of Neuroinformatics, a joint Institute of the ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. His passion is to understand how the structure of neocortex enables the broad range of functional complexity in perception, cognition, and action. An overarching framework for his research is the hypothesis that neocortex has a uniform structure. Together with Rodney Douglas, he proposed a ‘canonical’ cortical circuit, based on his experimental and theoretical investigations of the cat and monkey visual systems. Apart from exploring brains, he enjoys exploring the sky as a member of 4-Brain, a formation skydiving team.
