We are seeking a motivated, experienced Scientific Associate for a permanent position in the CNS department starting as soon as possible.

Job Responsibilities

Plan and execute in-vivo pharmacological studies in rodent models of psychiatric and neurological diseases

Perform behavioral and neurological evaluations (e.g., motor function, cognition) in rats and mice

Sample biological fluids (cerebrospinal fluid, blood) and tissues (brain, spinal cord) and perform ex vivo analyses (e.g. ELISA, immunohistochemistry, microscopy)

Responsible for the accurate documentation of experiments in the electronic lab journal

Supervise the breeding of one or two transgenic mouse/rat colonies

Literature search for the setup of relevant experimental methods, selection of the most appropriate models and optimization of existing protocols

Writing of internal scientific reports, and veterinary animal licenses

Communicate research findings internally, and collaborate closely with other research groups in the company

Candidate’s Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science (Biology/Pharmacology/Biochemistry), ideally with additional knowledge in Neuroscience; alternatively, a technical education with longer experience on the job; candidates holding a PhD will generally not be considered

Recognized as an animal experimenter (LTK1 or equivalent)

Practical work experience in the field of neuroscience for > 4 years in academia or, preferably, in an industrial setting

Hands-on experience in animal dosing (oral gavage, subcutaneous and intraperitoneal injections), and necropsy (e.g., microdissection of brain regions, muscles, and spinal cord)

Hands-on experience with complex behavioral and physiological tests in rodents; experience with operant testing and telemetry (e.g., for EEG/EMG assessment) is an asset

Hands-on experience in surgical techniques in rodents (experience in stereotaxic surgery is an advantage)

Experience with multifaceted analysis software for behavioral analysis (e.g., Ethovision, Any-Maze); experience with AI-based tools (e.g., DeepLabCut, DeepSqueak) and basic programming knowledge are an asset

Expertise in ex-vivo methods (e.g., histology, microscopy) is considered a plus

Ability to plan, methodologically perform, carefully analyze, accurately document experiments and present results

Enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment

Availability to occasionally work on weekends if chronic studies are ongoing

Fluency in English (verbal and written)
